A library database is a searchable index of multiple electronic journals/magazines, electronic books, newspapers, images, audio files, or even video. Some databases provide the full text of articles from indexed journals or books, but others only provide abstracts. Some databases cover many different disciplines and subject areas, but a few only focus on a single field of study. The following databases below index thousands of materials, and some cover a wide variety of topics (like JSTOR) while others are subject specific (like Naxos Music) or format specific (like Films on Demand or VAST).
